The New Mazda CX-5 Is as Impressive As Ever
It's been an exciting year for the Mazda CX-5, with their new generation range of medium SUVs exceeding expectations in an already saturated market thanks to revolutionary refinements and cutting-edge upgrades. New for 2017 was the addition of the mid-grade Touring model, which is proving to be an impressive compromise between luxury and a reasonable price.
Mazda has revamped the interiors of their CX-5's with a host of new features across the range to improve style, comfort and practicality. The biggest improvement, which will please a lot of previous Mazda CX-5 model owners, is that Mazda has successfully corrected the issues with harsh and encroaching interior road noise. Gone is the constant road roar that affected the previous generation of cars, leaving a quiet and conversational ambience in the cabin.
The Touring model provides a harmonious and integrated interior design that is both modern and stylish. The controls are clear and logical, and conveniently placed to allow ease of use and access for the driver. Face-level air-con vents are included as standard, as well as dual-zone climate control and keyless entry and start. Impressive functionality continues in the design and layout of the door pockets, central console and glove box space, and the Touring also includes a lower storage slot in the dashboard plus centrally mounted cup holders, ensuring all your practicality needs are covered. For those looking for abundant storage space, the Touring is sure to impress, with 442 litres of cargo volume to the rear seats, plus rear seat release handles inside the boot which allows quick and easy access to an increased cargo space of 1342 litres.
Style-wise, the Touring is classy with more than a touch of premium. Boasting leather-look and Alcantara seat trim, you'll feel as though you're driving one of the higher models instead of the mid-grade Touring model.
The Touring is fantastic to drive, boasting a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 140kW and 251Nm. The automatic six-speed transmission is alert and active, which keeps the Mazda CX-5 up to speed. Mazda has rolled out their revolutionary G-Vectoring Control across their Mazda range, which impressively connects the driver with the road, with a sharp and accurate steering feel that provides a confident driving feel that few other medium-sized SUVs in its class can match.
The 2017 Mazda CX-5 scored the maximum five-star rating when tested in 2017 by Euro NCAP (The European New Car Assessment Programme). The Mazda CX-5 2017 continues to impress with a huge range of revolutionary safety features, showcasing their ground-breaking i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology across their entire range. Offering six airbags (dual front, front seat side, and full-length curtain), an updated Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system that now also recognises pedestrians and has improved its range of suburban speeds with an increased maximum operational speed of 80km/h (previously 50km/h), blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reversing camera and more, the Mazda CX-5 has pulled out all the stops when it comes to safety.
“The Mazda CX-5 has always been praised for the comprehensive list of available safety technology... With the Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 we have really upped the ante by including even more.”
Mazda Australia marketing director Alastair Doak.
